  1. Hewn out of living rock the Sphinx measures
  2. 150 feet long and 70 feet from base to the 
  3. top of the head and said to be the image of
  4. the GOD Ra-Harmachis. Originally thought to
  5. be the work of CHAFRA one of the middle
  6. kingdom Pharoahs, but inscriptions found
  7. since have shown that it was around at the
  8. time of Chafu.

  10. The age of the Sphinx is very difficult to
  11. tell and some of the latest research suggest
  12. that because the head is small in comparison
  13. to the body that it may have been altered 
  14. from its original look. One scientist even
  15. beleives that because of the way the base has
  16. been worn away that it could only have been
  17. caused by water damage which would date it
  18. back to not long after the last ice age.

  20. The Sphinx was originally covered in
  21. limestone and probably covered with ornaments
  22. on its red coloured head unfortunatly because
  23. of its bad treament( especially bye the
  24. Muhammadan rulers who used it for target 
  25. practice) no trace of this monuments former
  26. glory can be seen today.
